In this experiment the performance of the athlete during their particular sport workout and how well they stayed hydrated was tested. This was measured by having the selected athletes drink the sport drink before, during, and after their workout. One of the athletes for each particular sport tried water as well. They then marked on a sheet of paper how they rated the drink performance wise. The comments and ratings of the drink were then put up to the actual ingredients to find the best sport drink. In this experiment the dependent variables are the effect of the drink on the athlete. The independent variables are the content of the drink, and the amount of each particular ingredient it contains.
Data was collected for every sports drink and the water as well. The most competitive ingredients between the sports drinks were the carbohydrate content, the amount of calories, potassium, and sodium. I got the supplies for my project from Harris Teeter Grocery Store. The people who tested the sport drinks during physical activity were athletes from the sport of either Cross Country or Soccer.
